At 70 years old, I finally did something I had been thinking about for a very long time.
I cut my hair short.
It may sound like a small decision, but for me, it wasn’t.
For years, I had kept my hair long because it was familiar. I knew how to style it, I knew how it looked, and I had become comfortable with it. Every time I thought about getting a shorter haircut, I would find a reason not to.
“What if I don’t like it?”
“What if it makes me look older?”
“What will everyone say?”
Those thoughts kept me from making the change.
But eventually, I realized something.
Why should age decide what hairstyle I can wear?
So I Finally Took the Plunge
I walked into the salon with a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
I showed my stylist the haircut I had been considering and said, “Let’s do it.”
Once the first few inches fell to the floor, there was no turning back.
I kept looking at myself in the mirror, wondering whether I had made a terrible mistake.
Then the stylist finished, turned the chair toward the mirror, and I saw the new me.
It was different.
Very different.
But surprisingly, I liked what I saw.
The shorter style made me feel lighter and refreshed. It also felt like a little reminder that I was allowed to change simply because I wanted to.
Getting Older Doesn’t Mean Giving Up on Yourself
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the years is that growing older doesn’t mean you have to stop trying new things.
You can change your hairstyle.
You can buy a new outfit.
You can learn something completely new.
You can travel somewhere you’ve never been.
You can start a new hobby.
You can reinvent yourself at any age.
There is no expiration date on feeling good about yourself.
Was I Nervous About What People Would Think?
Absolutely.
Whenever we make a noticeable change to our appearance, it’s natural to wonder what other people will say.
But I’ve reached an age where I’m learning not to let other people’s opinions make my decisions for me.
After all, I’m the one who has to look in the mirror every morning.
So if this haircut makes me smile, that’s already a pretty good reason to keep it.
Now I Want Your Honest Opinion
I’ve shared my new look because I genuinely want to know what you think.
Do you prefer my new short hairstyle?
Would you have made the same change at 70?
Or do you think longer hair would suit me better?
Be honest—but please remember that there’s a real person behind the photo.
And if you’re also thinking about making a change but you’re worried that you’re “too old,” maybe this is your sign.
You are never too old for a fresh start, a new hairstyle, or a little confidence boost.
So tell me:
Short hair—yes or no?
